Countdown is on to 2024 Bayhill Premier Cup tournament

The prestigious under-19 football tournament will once again see 32 clubs vying for top honours later this month. The tournament will take place at the Erica Park sportsfield in Belhar, with the final to be hosted at Athlone Stadium on Monday, 1 April 2024. Read more below:

The 2024 Bayhill Premier Cup tournament will take place between 27 March and 1 April this year.

All of the games will be played at Erica Park in Belhar, while the final will be contested at Athlone Stadium to accommodate more spectators.

At the official launch event last night, teams also got to find out who they will be facing in the group stages, as they vie for an opportunity to lift the trophy.

As is custom, the tournament will have eight groups of four teams, with the top two in each group moving on to the round of 16, before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and then the championship match.

The draw determined the groups as follows:

This is the 35th year of the Bayhill tournament.

'Our spectators and supporters can look out for 20 teams representative of the Western Cape this year, and we also have a nice mix of teams from PSL and First Division, as well as teams from abroad, and obviously teams traveling in from other provinces to represent the rest of the country. We look forward to seeing you there,' said Tournament Director, Rayaan Alie.

The City's Recreation and Parks Department continues to support the tournament, providing venues and related event services.

'The Bayhill Premier Cup tournament is a highlight on the domestic football calendar. The way that the event brings people together is incredibly special, and the City is proud to continue its association with the tournament. Sport can quite literally change lives and afford young people opportunities that they might not have thought possible. I have no doubt that there are future stars in the making who will be running onto the pitch this year, and I encourage our communities to go out and support them,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia Van der Ross.

Tickets for games at Erica Park will be sold at the gate, limited to approximately 3 800 maximum venue capacity.

Tickets for the final at Athlone Stadium will need to be pre-booked online as advertised by the Bayhill event organisers.
